It has been acknowledged that the current future of our environment is in peril! The main concept behind the works are to address the fact that many birds and flora species are currently endangered or extinct.
All works are sourced from the natural history illustrative archives from as far back as the 15th century from all parts of the world's national collection library. It is fascinating to look at and bring these observations from a time long ago to remind us of their fragility and the level of extinction.
The title, Surrounded by Time with a Canary in a coal mine, suggests; that we are running out of time and nature is telling us so!
The works are sitting on shelves, a place of memorabilia, sometimes a time and place of the memory of what once was.
The birds and plant life are placed on floating shelves on the surrounding gallery walls, they represent important items on display and symbolize the fragility of their existence, encapsulating time lost and gained.
The intention is to explore the human inclination and tendency to collect and display meaningful items on shelves, emphasizing that these painted birds and flora may one day only exist as objects to be admired.
The collection of painted birds placed on shelves are exactly these items. It feels as though we will be one day placing these beloved creatures on our shelves to be looked at because they might just one day be gone forever!

The concepts behind the artworks are concerned with plants, flora, and vines but mainly orchids. I have been looking at the forms within large and small plants and it has given me ideas to recreate and restructure the way plants grow. Why do we love plants so much besides the health benefits? I think we also love them because they look just look spectacular! If you look at a plant, tree, bush or flower and its gorgeous foliage you can see these wonderful compositions they make without trying!

Here I have placed the scarf in the landscape and my hope was to make it feel like it is a part of the landscape. Sort of camouflaged but we know it is not. The idea is to have these particles replicate exactly how nature develops and grow. By drifting particles( seeds and alike) to inform the viewer that this is an unseen language within nature most of the time.
The inverted aspects of the video are to show the complexity of nature and how my own painting has these same complexities!
Some of these Selected Paintings are concerned with exploring aspects of our Australian Flora combined with introduced species within our environment.
But mainly the new works explore the concepts of neurological patterns and there formations within the human mind and natures complex geometric shapes. These arrangements exist secretly within the new work showcasing the natural ability nature has to constantly make connections with its surroundings.
I love finding ways to relate how nature can survive, how she makes pathways when impacted upon. For a few years now I have been studying aspects of the brain and how to visually create parallels between the neurological pathways and how nature can also create new chaotic pathways too.
